Attention in movement
Notice contact with the world as you move or sit.
Foundation editorial draft · Updated 2026-10-16
When to try it
When movement or external sensory contact feels more approachable than inward questioning.
Five minutes
Choose a clear, familiar space. Stand, sit, or use your usual mobility support.
Notice points of contact with the floor, seat, or support. Let your eyes remain open.
If comfortable, move at your ordinary pace and feel the changing contact. Seated shifts of attention work too.
Include nearby sounds and colors while remaining attentive to your surroundings.
Stop comfortably and choose your next ordinary task. Carry one moment of attention into it.
What not to expect
A special gait, a flexibility goal, or an altered state.
Make it workable
Remain seated and attend to your hands, seat, and surroundings. Avoid practicing while crossing streets or operating equipment.
